At the time of being awarded 2011 Outstanding Woman in Resources Maryanne was the General Manager, Production at one of the largest diamond mines in the world – the 100 per cent Rio Tinto-owned Argyle Diamond Mine. A single mother, Maryanne’s mining career started as an administration officer in the remote Goldfields. She completed her first degree at age 33. By 38, Maryanne was Operations Manager at one of the largest iron ore mines in Australia at that time.
Encouraging the advancement of female and Aboriginal apprentices and trainees within the industry remains a passion for Maryanne.
Maryanne describes her vision for the Western Australian resources sector as being one where “flexible work arrangements, which enable supporting a family, are readily available”. Her vision includes the view that “women are as equally capable and seen that way when opportunities are handed out.”
