Nominations are now open for the 2014 Women in Resources Awards, proudly presented by the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia (CME).
CME encourages all WA resources sector companies to look within their organisation and consider putting forward a nomination for either outstanding staff members or an innovative initiative their company has developed.
“There are many women, men and companies who are achieving great things in the sector to champion diversity and we want to celebrate their success,” said CME Chief Executive, Reg Howard-Smith.
“It’s also an opportunity for companies to promote the innovative programs they have been implemented which are attracting and retaining more women to their projects,” said Mr Howard-Smith.
“Over the last five years we’ve seen the number of women employed in the sector remain fairly steady at 19 per cent. CME expects to see more women employed as the sector transitions from construction through to production,” said Mr Howard-Smith.
“Now in its fifth year, the Awards are a great opportunity for the resources sector to come together to celebrate and recognise those working to build a world-class and diverse industry,” said Mr Howard-Smith.
CME looks forward to receiving nominations for female employees who are making a positive impact in the resources sector as well as male employees who are leading the way in championing women in the resources sector.
The nominations will be judged by a panel convened by CME before finalists are announced in early 2014.
The categories are:
- Women in Resources Champion – recognises and awards an individual, male or female, who has encouraged and advocated for the attraction, retention and promotion of women.
- Outstanding Woman in Resources – recognises an outstanding woman’s achievements in her career in the resources sector and her resilience in overcoming barriers.
- Outstanding Young Woman in Resources – recognises an outstanding young woman who has shown significant promise and reached new goals in their career to date.
- Outstanding Operator/Technician/ Trade Woman – recognises an outstanding woman who has broken new ground for women in non-traditional field.
- Outstanding Company Initiative – recognises a company that has implemented an initiative which demonstrates successful attraction, retention and/or promotion of women.

Winners of the Women in Resources Awards 2014 will be announced at a breakfast presentation ceremony on Friday 7 March, hosted by popular journalist, commentator and media personality Annabel Crabb.
