Resources Sector Welcomes New State Cabinet

The Chamber of Minerals and Energy (CME) congratulates the new-look State Cabinet, announced today by Premier Colin Barnett.

Three new members have joined Cabinet – Sean L’Estrange has been named Mines and Petroleum Minister, Donna Faragher as Minister for Planning and Disability Services and Andrea Mitchell takes on Mental Health and Child Protection.

CME chief executive Reg Howard-Smith said he was pleased to see such a refreshing and balanced Cabinet line-up.

“We are looking forward to working with the new Minister for Mines and Petroleum Sean L’Estrange,” Mr Howard-Smith said.

“In being given this portfolio, Mr L’Estrange takes on one of the most important sectors to the West Australian economy – an industry which provides significant royalties, jobs and social contributions to the WA landscape.”

“Mr L’Estrange has proved himself to be a solid performer since his election to Parliament in 2013 and we look forward to working with him on a range of advocacy issues.”

Mr Howard-Smith also congratulated outgoing Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Marmion who has been promoted to the State Development portfolio.

“As was the case with his predecessor, the Hon Bill Marmion, we anticipate building and maintaining strong and effective relationships with Mr L’Estrange and his office,” Mr Howard-Smith said.

“Minister Marmion always listened to the concerns of resource companies and recognised the vital economic importance the sector provides to Western Australia. CME looks forward to continuing to work with Minister Marmion in his new role as Minister for State Development.”
