Another memorable St Barbara’s Festival in the Goldfields

Christmas in the Goldfields isn’t Christmas without the St Barbara’s Festival and its two key events – The Miners’ Memorial and the St Barbara’s Parade.

The Miners’ Memorial is a time of remembrance for the community to reflect on lives that have been lost on Goldfields mine sites. Our sector focuses on and promotes safety better than most but there is still risk in the environments in which we operate, and in 2021, we sadly added another name to the Memorial list. The 2021 Miners’ Memorial was held under the shade of beautiful trees at the Museum of Goldfields, where the St Barbara’s statue sat in its new temporary site beside the Memorial wall. It was a very meaningful and emotional evening.

The St Barbara’s Festival Parade was held on Sunday December 5 and was again one of the highlights of the Goldfields calendar. In 2020 the parade was unable to be held, so the 2021 parade was greatly anticipated. This year the parade had 60 floats and was attended by up to 10,000 people.  Parade floats were made up of local schools, local dancers (including Indigenous dancers) and a huge variety of boggers, loaders and trucks, including a brand new Northern Star dump truck. The appearance of Santa was a highlight and kids were delighted with the lollies thrown to them by parade float participants.

G E Business Register

Meanwhile, the G E Business Register continues to grow and now has more than 550 businesses registered. The platform allows local businesses the opportunity to improve their visibility to suppliers and purchasers and to register as a supplier to the mining industry, and showcase their skills and capabilities to mining companies.

The Kalgoorlie Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KBCCI) is the dedicated resource looking after the register and will help Goldfields businesses sign up and answer any of their questions.  Contact Sharon Henderson at the KBCCI at hello@gebusinessregister.com.au
