Over the past month, CME has been working closely with its members, the WA Country Health Services (WACHS) and Department of Health (DoH) to assist WA’s regional COVID-19 vaccine rollout. Pilbara members have generously provided on the ground support and funding to run mass vaccination clinics in Tom Price, Paraburdoo, Port Hedland, Newman, Karratha, Pannawonica and other locations as identified. Goldfields members are currently partnering with WACHS to organise the set-up of mass vaccination clinics in their region. A number of additional priority regional mass vaccination clinics across the State and second dose follow-up clinics are planned between now and the end of the year.
Commonwealth vaccination statistics indicate significant uplifts in regional vaccination rates as a result of these mass clinics, which is very encouraging to see. However, with regional WA vaccination rates still lagging behind the State average, supporting the set-up and running of regional mass vaccination clinics remains important. Industry can continue to play an important role in ensuring the success of these clinics.
Regional mass vaccination clinics are only one part of the WA vaccination rollout strategy which members are engaging in. Greater uptake of vaccinations in the regions will help to keep the resource sector workforce, families and communities safe and healthy and help maintain operations, business continuity and production for the benefit of industry, workers, and communities in which the sector operates.
If you have any questions about the regional mass vaccination clinics, or would like to partner with WACHS to deliver the mass vaccination clinic in your relevant area, contact Susan Cull s.cull@cmewa.com or 0447 104 955.
CME would like to thank the generosity of the following members who have helped to deliver these critical regional services: BHP, Chevron, Fortescue Metals Group, Mineral Resources Limited, Monadelphous, Pilbara Minerals, Pilbara Ports Authority, Rio Tinto, Roy Hill, Woodside, Yara Pilbara, in addition to community and government organisations.
