As WA prepares for increasing numbers of COVID-19 infections across the state, CME has commenced facilitating a coordinated approach to industry’s support for regional communities.
CME members are aligned with the principle of ensuring the resources sector does not negatively impact the regions and communities it operates in and does not undermine public health efforts.
To support this principle, industry is committed to:
- Minimise impact on communities – to reflect the resources companies’ commitment to minimise their impact on the regional and remote communities where they operate, companies will put in place arrangements to maintain separation between their activities at mine sites and oil and gas facilities with communities, where relevant.
- Campaign – industry will cross-promote public health information amongst its networks and stakeholders, including support for regional and remote COVID-19 vaccination clinics.
- Support for Indigenous and regional communities – resources companies and industry representatives continue to make significant financial and in-kind contributions to regional communities.
Recognising each region in WA is unique and will have its own support requirements over 2022, it will be critical for industry to understand each region’s community response plans and work together to support them.
To assist meeting the above commitments, CME will:
- Facilitate regional industry working groups to align support efforts and coordinate industry’s agreed actions unique to each region. Regional community response working groups will be formed in the North West, South West and Goldfields regions;
- Liaise with regional government departments to align industry support for community outbreak response.
CME invites your organisation to consider nominating a member for the above relevant regional community response working group. For further information or to nominate a member, please contact Susan Cull at s.cull@cmewa.com
