This month, we launched the 2021 Diversity and Inclusion Survey to members. This important biennial survey informs the development of the Diversity and Inclusion in the WA Resources Sector report, which quantifies and tracks progress across key focus areas. This includes the participation rates of women and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees, as well as trends in organisational policies, strategies and initiatives in support of diversity and inclusion. Your company’s primary survey contact will now have received the necessary details to access and complete the survey. For any questions or further information about the survey, please don’t hesitate to contact us through survey@cme.com.
The Sex Discrimination and Fair Work (Respect at Work) Amendment Act 2021 (Cth) (Respect at Work Act) commenced on 11 September 2021, forming part of the Federal Government’s response to the world-first Respect@Work report handed down in 2020. This and The Fair Work Amendment (Respect at Work) Regulations give effect to a number of the recommendations contained in the Respect@Work report, supporting organisations to build and maintain safe and respectful workplaces.
In addition to the changes recommended in the Respect@Work report, the Act establishes miscarriage as grounds for employees and their partners to access compassionate leave at the current provision of up to two days. Carer status, grief and overall family care responsibilities constitute some of the many ways our diversity of experience impacts who we are and the way we are present at work. These changes represent a step towards embracing a more fulsome inclusion of diverse family care experiences.
With facilitation support from CME, the Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) Industry Collaboration reconvened to commence planning ahead of the annual 16 Days in WA campaign. Now in its fifth year, the Department of Communities 16 Days in WA initiative draws inspiration from the global movement for 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence to drive a change in culture, behaviour and attitudes that lead to violence against women and their children. If you or someone you know is experiencing or using violence, a comprehensive list of WA support services is available on the family and domestic violence support page. If someone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services on 000.
