CME’s Goldfields Environment Forum (GEF) was held at CME’s Kalgoorlie office in July.
Norton Goldfields hosted the members of GEF at a site visit to the newly-commissioned Binduli North Heap Leach Site. The GEF undertook a tour of the facility, parts of which are still under construction. Brendan Ovans and Adrian Lally gave the group an overview of the approvals process and the key learnings, which was very relevant to the group as a key focus of the GEF meeting was approvals and approvals streamlining.
Sectoral Emissions Reduction Strategy (SERS)
The Minister for Climate Action, Hon Reece Whitby MLA convened an industry roundtable to kick off the development of the SERS on May 10. SERS aims to evaluate opportunities for cost effective greenhouse gas emission abatement across WA’s key economic sectors and develop strategies to guide emissions reduction.
CME facilitated a SERS introductory event in June for members of the CME Climate and Energy Reference Group (CERG). Representatives from Department of Water and Environment Regulation (DWER), Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science & Innovation (JTSI) and Energy Policy WA (EPWA) introduced the SERS project, consultation approach and proposed delivery timelines.
SERS consultation will commence shortly. CME will co-ordinate consultation through the CERG. To register your interest in being a part of this consultation please contact Anita Logiudice, Senior Adviser – Environment & Sustainability at a.logiudice@cmewa.com
