ESG and the Resources Sector – what does the future look like?

CME’s second networking event in the Environmental Sundowner Series has now been pushed back from its original July 2 date to August 26. It will cover the very interesting and highly relevant topic of “ESG and the Resources Sector – What does the future look like?”

We will explore environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects, engaging with industry experts in considered and robust discussion to deliver insights into international and domestic trends in the role of ESG in investing, investor relations, and sustainable development within the resources industry.

We’re excited to hear the diverse perspectives of our panellists Caron Sugars (Partner, KPMG), Jody Nunn (CEO, Reconciliation WA), and Christian Jensen (Director, CVC Emerging Companies) in a panel discussion moderated by Fiona Hick (Executive Vice President Operations, Woodside).

The Environment Sundowner Series provides a forum which encourages diverse thinking and creates an opportunity for CME members to network with industry peers and special guests.

CME will also be co-hosting a special sundowner event with Clayton Utz and Carbon Neutral later in July, with Dr Andrea Hinwood, Chief Scientist for the United Nations Environment Program. During this event, Dr Hinwood will outline UNEP’s view of the pathway to limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees, the link with the restoration decade, and the role for business in those efforts.

We look forward to seeing you there.

MRIWA – net zero emissions mining and green steel updates

During June, CME’s Climate and Energy Reference Group hosted Nicole Roocke, CEO of the Minerals Research Institute of WA (MRIWA), for an update on the Net Zero Emissions Mining and the Green Steel challenges being led by MRIWA. These projects are key initiatives of the State’s new Climate Policy.

The MRIWA Net Zero Emissions Mining Conference date has also now been confirmed as October 13, 2021. Members are encouraged to contact conference@mriwa.wa.gov.au for further information about the conference, including opportunities to present papers at the conference and for sponsor opportunities.

Additionally, the CERG discussed revisions to CME’s climate policy and energy policy with both due to be finalised in Q3, 2021.
