The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) has published summaries of key feedback provided on the draft Mining Amendment Bill 2022, which was released for consultation in March 2022. This includes a summary of feedback provided to DMIRS regarding the additional proposed amendment to allow fees to be charged for objections lodged under the Mining Act 1978 (WA) (Mining Act). These consultation summaries provide an indication of the format the final draft of the Bill will take, including further amendments.
CME was pleased to confirm DMIRS has accepted all recommendations made in the CME submission to this consultation, most importantly regarding the need to remove the proposed amendment to create an additional application process to the Minister to excise parts of a tenement application.
CME considers it a priority that any current issues regarding excisions under the Mining Act, which were originally raised by DMIRS, are resolved as quickly as possible to allow for the operation of a system of tenure which provides for the secure, predictable and efficient grant of title for exploration in WA.
New round of Exploration Incentive Scheme co-funded drilling recipients announced
The flagship Exploration Incentive Scheme (EIS) co-funded drilling program, which supports explorers to obtain refunds for up to 50 per cent of their exploration drilling costs up to a maximum cap of $220,000 for innovative deep hole drilling.
Funded through mining tenement rental income, these grants provide explorers who are looking to undertake innovative drilling for emerging commodities, including battery metals, an important incentive to assist in the success of these projects.
CME congratulates the recipients of Round 25 grants, including CME members Mount Gibson and Gold Fields. Drilling for this round commences 1 June 2022 and is required to be completed by 31 May 2023 to be eligible for full refund.
