Forum lays groundwork for drilling-ready skills program

On March 10, the Resources Industry Training Council (RITC) hosted a drilling forum at CME’s Perth offices. The forum was attended by representatives from the drilling industry and government to lay the groundwork for a proposed ‘drilling-ready’ skills program, which would act as a pre-employment pathway to attract and skill new industry entrants as part of a government-subsidised initiative.

RITC Manager, Amanda Hamilton, chaired the forum with representatives providing valuable input on what the basic skills requirement would be, opportunities and challenges for the incorporation of work placement, and setting pre-screening recommendations for candidates.

Australian Drilling Industry Association Board Director, Tim Westcott said the forum was highly productive.

“We’ve got industry behind us and that bodes well for an outcome that will meet needs, and ultimately address the problem or at the very least mitigate its impact,” he said.

A second forum was held with industry representatives in Kalgoorlie on March 26.
