CME celebrated the history and exciting times ahead for the Goldfields region at the recent Kambalda Mining Forum in early March.
CME Chief Executive Paul Everingham addressed forum participants, sharing his confidence in the preparedness of the Goldfields industry to manage the spread of COVID-19 and support the community during this time. Paul noted the increased activity in the region due to the ongoing global push towards electrification and therefore the growing demand for battery minerals, including nickel and lithium.
Not only is the region producing the minerals of the future, but Goldfields companies are embracing renewable energy solutions, with Australia’s biggest renewable energy microgrid at Agnew, and the current trial of the world’s largest battery-electric underground mining truck at Sunrise Dam.
Local connection – local procurement
The Goldfields Esperance Business Register has been embraced across the region, with the register now boasting more than 700 local businesses listed. The register and supporting events provide multiple opportunities for industry and business to work together more closely to grow local business capability and local procurement opportunities.
