On November 5, CME Goldfields Manager Ryan O’Hanlon travelled south to Hopetoun for the Ravensthorpe Mining Business Information Session. This information session and lunch, organised by the Goldfields Esperance Development Commission, Department of Primary Industry and Regional Development, and Great Southern Development Commission, was a great success. Approximately 90 people attended and listened to presentations from First Quantum Minerals, Medallion Metals, Macca Mining, and Galaxy Mining Projects.
Presenters covered their current project status, plans to recruit locally and develop local content opportunities, and also their tender processes. Visitors interacted with the presenters and stallholders and it’s fair to say the resources industry around Esperance, Ravensthorpe and Hopetoun is looking promising.
In mid-November, CME attended the 2020 What’s Down the Track (WDTT) Forum and Exhibition. The Kalgoorlie-Boulder of Commerce and Industry (KBCCI) has now been running this forum for 21 years. WDTT highlights planned projects and economic forecast for the Goldfields over the next 12 months.
The 2020 WDTT attracted more than 260 attendees, 21 booths and 20 presenters. These presenters included local mine operations and key contractors and suppliers, local, State, and Federal government departments and organisations, plus Western Australian universities.
CME Chief Executive Paul Everingham used his WDTT address to highlight the WA resources sector’s economic contribution to WA and the Goldfields region. Topics covered by Paul included commodity projections for gold and nickel prices, planned and committed projects in the pipeline, the need to build long-term capability and skills growth, and the upcoming GE Business Register. The feeling throughout the day was upbeat and vibrant, and the outlook is very positive for the next 12 months for the Goldfields region.
