The first day of April for me was spent in the Pilbara town of Port Hedland. While there I had the opportunity to tour the Spinifex Hill Studio and understand the critical role the studio plays in developing Aboriginal artists and strengthening connections to Pilbara’s rich cultural history.
As the main industry in Port Hedland, the resources sector plays an important part in supporting community and economic development. This support goes beyond funding opportunities, and includes providing local training and employment options, and partnering with other stakeholders such as the Port Hedland Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Pilbara Development Commission to progress ways to support the growth and diversification of the town’s economy. CME will continue to engage with regional stakeholders and government to advocate for outcomes which will progress the growth of regional centres important to our industry.
Recently, these advocacy efforts included CME providing feedback to Infrastructure Australia’s Regional Strength and Gaps project. CME provided broad comment on common themes relevant to regional demand and supply of infrastructure used or owned and operated by the sector, including energy infrastructure, security and reforms, land use, road upgrades, transport infrastructure, social infrastructure such as childcare, and water security and quality.
