The annual Inspiring Girls Career Forum has again proved to be a big hit, attracting more than 200 students to Optus Stadium in August to hear more about the exciting range of jobs and career pathways that are available in the WA mining and resources sector.
The students were joined by representatives from 26 mining and resources companies, with the opportunity to speak directly to women working in the sector – and hear about their career journeys – being a particular highlight.
In addition to being able to “discover” gold in Kalgoorlie (thanks to Australian Earth Science Education), attendees were able to learn more about how their particular skill sets and interests might suit particular roles or fields of work.
Events like Inspiring Girls are vital to showcasing the huge spectrum of opportunities in WA mining and resources and fostering diversity in the sector, and CME now looks forward to continuing to grow the forum into the future.
“It’s great to have the support of CME member companies at our Inspiring Girls event, which showcases a wide range of career opportunities in mining and resources to hundreds of female high school students each year,” CME’s Manager of Health, Safety and People Laila Nowell said.
“The WA mining and resources sector is continually working to grow a more diverse workforce and events such as Inspiring Girls are a key part of the efforts to inspire and develop our employees of the future.”
