CME recently had the privilege – with participation from the Minerals Council of Australia and the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association – to host a familiarisation tour of key operations in the Pilbara for Federal and State MPs, along with Federal Resources Minister Madeleine King.
The three-day tour was a great success, with the mostly first-term MPs extremely impressed by the scope and professionalism of our member company operations, including their ongoing efforts to reduce carbon emissions and the wide variety of contributions they make to local communities. The trip included visits to major gas plants, port operations and lithium and iron ore mines.
These types of events are absolutely invaluable for showcasing our industry to stakeholders who otherwise may not get the opportunity to see operations up-close. It was also Rebecca Tomkinson’s first trip of this kind since coming on board as CEO.
CME thanks the MCA and APPEA for their support in getting the event off the ground. We’re also extremely grateful for the member companies who provided such fantastic access to their operations, including Chevron, Rio Tinto, Woodside, Mineral Resources, FMG and BHP.
