Resources Industry Training Council Manager Amanda Hamilton got an up-close look recently at the technology being used to prepare candidates for life in the WA mining and resources sector.
Amanda witnessed first-hand how Macmahon is using simulators to help transition people from a variety of backgrounds into new careers in mining, learning important skills (including safety skills) needed for on-site life in a safe and positive environment.
She even had a go on the haul truck simulator, where she seemed to get every imaginable hazard in her five minutes behind the wheel!
WA Training Awards winners announced
Pre-site training programs are preparing candidates for the safety and procedural requirements of working on a mine site, and Macmahon are having great success transitioning people into the mining sector from various backgrounds. Candidates are also able to learn in a safe and positive environment whilst teaching each other.
The WA Training Awards event was held at Crown Perth on September 17 with eight individual winners and four organisations recognised across a range of industries including travel and tourism, health, landscaping, cookery, and aviation.
The awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of apprentices, trainees, employers and training organisations in the vocational education sector, with individual winners receiving $3000 which they may use to further their training or kick-start their career. Award winners also become ambassadors for the training sector.
The awards are hosted by the Department of Training and Workforce Development and the State Training Board.
