The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia (CME) welcomes today’s introduction of a Bill to ratify the Natural Gas (Canning Basin Joint Venture) Agreement by the Western Australian State Government.
“Today’s announcement by the Premier is an important step in the development of a new emerging and vital segment of the Western Australian resource sector,” said CME Chief Executive Reg Howard-Smith.
The Agreement has been signed by the State Government with joint venture partners, Buru Energy Limited and Mitsubishi Corporation.
“Western Australia has a very significant onshore natural gas resource which with further exploration and development will deliver new employment and business opportunities for Western Australians, in particular local aboriginal communities,” said Mr Reg Howard-Smith.
“Developments in the Canning Basin region will make a substantial and ongoing contribution to improving economic, environmental and social outcomes in the Kimberley,” said Mr Howard-Smith.
