“It’s pleasing that the Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Resources, Joel Fitzgibbon has already said that he is keen to promote the important contribution the mining, oil and gas industries make to the economy and the jobs they create in the regions,” said Mr Everingham.
“I congratulate Mark Butler for his appointment as Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Energy. As an industry, we’re keen to make sure that the Western Australian resources sector isn’t penalised at a state level in regards to emissions. If we are, this will affect industries ability to remain globally competitive and threaten multi-billion-dollar projects.
“Western Australia currently has the second highest unemployment rate in the country and ours is an industry that likes to create jobs and improve people’s prosperity. We can’t do that if we’re being unfairly penalised.”
Mr Everingham said CME was also look forward to working with Terri Butler as Shadow Minister for Gas, Environment and Water.
