CME Chief Executive Reg Howard Smith said in addition to providing redundancy packages and outplacement assistance, First Quantum Minerals was canvassing options to assist those employees impacted by the closure of the Ravensthorpe operation.
“I have spoken with both Premier Mark McGowan and Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Johnston and assured them that CME would invite its members to consider sourcing talent from this labour pool where possible to ensure the Western Australian resource sector does not lose this skilled workforce.
“We are pleased with TMI’s prompt invitation to the Ravensthorpe workers to apply for new positions at the Woodie Woodie manganese mine in the Pilbara, and hope similar offers are made by other companies.”
CME and First Quantum Minerals have created a central contact point for resources companies with suitable vacancies to facilitate the redeployment of these workers within the sector.
