The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of WA CEO, Paul Everingham, has welcomed the next phase of Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s Government’s red-tape reduction agenda with the establishment of its Deregulation Taskforce.
“The Morrison Government is obviously keen to get rubber on road in tackling the regulatory reform issues. The WA resources sector continues to underpin the national economy, and prospective growth in investment and exports will rely on our sector being internationally competitive,” said Mr Everingham.
“CME has already been engaging with our members and asking them for realistic solutions to reduce over-regulation and remove duplication across jurisdictions so that it’s easier for them to expand projects, create jobs and continue to strengthen the economy.
“Yesterday’s announcement, alongside complementary deregulation initiatives including the Productivity Commission review into mining approvals and the Streamline WA initiative, sets a course for meaningful reform that is in the national interest.
“It is commendable that the Commonwealth Government will invite broad perspectives and assess the burden of regulation across all levels of government.
“We also look forward to engaging with the Taskforce, alongside Treasurer Josh Frydenberg and Assistant Minister Ben Morton, to build the constructive case for change.”
