The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia (CME) calls upon political parties and candidates to commit to policy initiatives which deliver further growth to the resources sector.
“The Western Australian resources sector has brought long term economic benefits to Australia and in order for that to continue, we must remain internationally competitive,” said CME Chief Executive, Mr Howard-Smith.
In order to ensure the Western Australian resources sector continues to develop and support other sectors, and the state and national economies as a whole, it is imperative to put in place effective measures to arrest the decline in productivity. Workplace reform and implementation of policy to stimulate innovation are necessary by the next federal government to ensure economic development.
“A focus on reducing the cost of doing business and increasing exploration activity are core requirements to enable the continued growth of the resources sector in Western Australia to drive the state and national economies,” said Mr Howard-Smith.
In order to maintain the current AAA rating and reputation of Australia as a place to do business, the government must retain some flexibility within the budget for spending cuts to ensure appropriate debt levels are maintained. This is vital for Australia to remain competitive in competing for international capital for project finance.
CME encourages the government to enact policies that will continue to incentivise investment and exploration in the resources sector. We urge transparency, consultation and forward planning across all areas to encouragement further investment and stability for the sector.
CME’s Election Submission provides recommendations in important policy areas such as economic management, taxation, infrastructure, environmental reform, land access, people, workplace safety and regional Western Australia.
CME has provided political parties and candidates the submission and key recommendations which will assist in developing a productive and efficient resources sector for the ongoing growth of our country.
