The Chevron-operated Gorgon Project is one of the world’s largest natural gas projects and includes a three-train, 15.6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) LNG facility and a domestic gas plant with the capacity to supply 300 terajoules of gas per day to Western Australia.
CME chief executive Reg Howard-Smith said today’s milestone represented a massive investment in the future of Western Australia.
“The Gorgon Project is forecast to add almost $14 billion each year to Australia’s GDP right through until 2040,” Mr Howard-Smith said.
“It will also boost state and federal government revenues by more than $70 billion, from 2009 to 2040.”
Mr Howard-Smith also acknowledged the environmental stewardship and community investments delivered by the project and its joint venture partners including the $34 billion spent on local goods and services.
“Not only are Chevron and the joint venture partners committed to delivering the resource but they are committed to the long term future of Barrow Island and the communities where they operate,” Mr Howard-Smith said.
“CME and its members congratulate the project on this major milestone.”
