The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia (CME) has welcomed the appointment of Nationals MP for Hinkler (QLD), Keith Pitt, as the new Minister for Resources, Northern Australian and Water.
Mr Pitt has previously served as Assistant Minister to the Deputy Prime Minister, Barnaby Joyce; Assistant Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment and Assistant Minister to the Deputy Prime Minister, Michael McCormack.
CME Chief Executive Paul Everingham said he was looking forwarding to building a positive working relationship with Minister Pitt to further the growth of the WA resources sector.
“Minister Pitt has been supportive in his parliamentary speeches about the resources sector and recognises our significant contribution to the Australian economy through job creation and exports,” he said.
“The WA resources sector continues to underpin the national economy, and prospective growth in investment and exports will rely on our sector being internationally competitive.
“We look forward to working with Minister Pitt to facilitate this growth and capitalise on the billions of dollars invested in resources projects across the State.”
Mr Everingham thanked former Resources and Northern Australia Minister Matt Canavan for his support and advocacy of the WA resources sector.
“Matt’s support and advocacy of the sector and our members was significant, particularly in the area of job creation, development of new resource regions and the promotion of emerging commodities such as rare earths and critical minerals,” he said.
“CME and our members wish him all the best as he continues his work as a dedicated Senator for Queensland.”
