The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of WA welcomes the start of work today on the Pluto Train 2 Project by Woodside and its partners – a truly significant project that will generate great benefits for not only the North West but the entire State.
CME Acting Chief Executive Rob Carruthers said Pluto Train 2, in combination with the Scarborough development, would be a major provider of essential energy – as well as jobs and broader economic contributions – for decades to come.
“The fact the Pluto Train 2 Project will employ about 2000 people at its peak in 2024 is a key pointer to the value of this project to WA as a whole,” Mr Carruthers said.
“It’s also great to hear that Bechtel, which will execute the engineering, procurement and construction of Pluto Train 2, has already engaged a number of local and Indigenous businesses to support delivery, and that more will follow as the project progresses.
“It’s been estimated that Pluto Train 2 and the Scarborough development – from which it will process gas – will contribute $19 billion to the Australian economy through taxation and boost national gross domestic product by $125 billion to 2063.
“It’s important to point out that the LNG which Scarborough delivers internationally to North Asia will also be one of the lowest-carbon available, due in part to the technology set to be included at Pluto Train 2.”
