The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia (CME) looks forward to working constructively with the newly elected Leader of the Opposition, Liza Harvey and her Deputy, Bill Marmion.
“The CME has always had open and honest dialogue with all sides of politics and we are keen to brief the new Opposition Leader and Deputy about the opportunities and issues within the resources sector,” said CME Chief Executive Paul Everingham.
“For CME, the issue of greenhouse gas emissions targets and maintaining our competitiveness on a national and global level is front and centre. But we are also focused on ensuring that we have a stream of skilled workers coming through the education and training pipeline to meet the needs of industry.
“As the former Minister for Mines and Petroleum in the Barnett Government, Mr Marmion comes to his new position with an understanding of the sector and its contribution to the local and national economy and communities across Western Australia.
Mr Everingham thanked former Opposition Leader Mike Nahan for his support.
“Both as Treasurer and Opposition Leader Dr Nahan has long been an ally of the resources sector. He was always willing to listen to industry’s point of view and take it into account when formulating policy. We wish him all the best.”
