Creative solutions to specific safety and health problems in the workplace will be celebrated through the 2013 Safety and Health Innovation Awards, presented by the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia (CME).
CME Chief Executive Reg Howard-Smith opened nominations today and encouraged individuals, teams and companies to come forward with their best solutions.
“Now in its ninth year, the awards aim to promote these solutions so they can be applied across the WA resources sector,” Mr Howard-Smith said.
“The resources sector places the highest priority on the safety and health of its employees and sharing innovation is essential to continuous improvement.
“We never stop learning new and better ways to protect our workers and enhance the overall efficiency and safety of the workplace.”
Entry is open to all Western Australian minerals and resource companies including contractors associated with the sector.
Companies are not limited in the number of entries they can submit so if they have had a particularly creative year, they can put forward all of their solutions and procedures.
The categories are:
• People
Innovations which relate to existing personnel, new personnel and/or organisational changes
• Systems
Innovative implementation or design of systems or procedures which impact on safety and health
• Engineering
Maintenance, engineering, operational or infrastructure changes which enhance health and safety
