Ms Duncan, the member for Kalgoorlie, has announced she will not contest the 2017 State Election.
CME chief executive Reg Howard-Smith said Ms Duncan was a strong advocate and friend of the mining sector. She was a proud leader of her electorate who led initiatives to promote growth, development and sustainability of the mining industry and the communities in which they operate.
“Wendy was fundamental to the development of the Royalties for Regions program which has delivered tangible benefits to regional Western Australia, while ensuring a fair proportion of mining revenue is returned to the regional communities in which they operate,” Mr Howard-Smith said.
“She fought to reduce unnecessary cost imposts on business such as advocating against increases to gold royalty rates and supporting the fast-tracking of legislative amendments through parliament to reduce escalating local government rates.
“As the member for Kalgoorlie, Wendy has been a great friend of our industry. She has supported the advancement of mining and minerals education facilities which was fundamental to securing funds to rebuild and expand student accommodation facilities at the Western Australian School of Mines Agricola Campus (now well underway in Kalgoorlie). She also continues to mentor WASM graduates to develop the people skills necessary for a successful professional career.
“CME looks forward to working with Wendy for the remainder of her parliamentary term and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”
