CME Chief Executive Reg Howard-Smith said “the resources sector is proud to be the largest private sector employer of Indigenous Australians in Western Australia, with Indigenous Australians making up about 5.8 per cent of the sector’s workforce.
“The sector is committed to the ongoing employment and skills development of Indigenous Australians in our sector and we are pleased to be able to facilitate this event,” said Mr Howard-Smith.
“An ongoing commitment from resources companies is important to ensure there is sustainable employment for Indigenous people in the sector,” said Mr Howard-Smith.
Despite a challenging period in the resources sector, there is optimism with regard to Indigenous participation, with CME’s Resources Sector Outlook forecasting the percentage of Indigenous people to grow to 8.1 per cent by 2020.
