The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia (CME) strongly supports the changes announced by the State Government that will create new study opportunities and keep more students engaged.
Under the changes, as of next, Year 11 students will have the option of choosing five General subjects, and in 2021, Year 12 students will be able to do the same. All students who do this, will now achieve their Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).
“The choices that Year 11 and 12 students make when it comes to choosing their subjects often dictates their future areas of study and where they will study. Having this third pathway that can lead them towards further study at either university or into training, not one or the other, creates opportunities,” said CME Chief Executive, Paul Everingham.
“And at a time when the mining and oil and gas sectors need practical and theoretical skills, it’s good to know that education and career prospects for the workforce of tomorrow are expanding.”
