Nominations have opened for the Chamber of Minerals and Energy WA (CME) 2027 Women in Resources Awards (WIRA), the sector’s premiere celebration of some of its brightest trailblazers and most brilliant minds.
Now in its 18th year, WIRA provides a platform to celebrate the rapidly growing impact of women across a wide range of resources professions, as well as the people and companies championing more diverse and inclusive workplaces.
CME Chief Executive Officer Aaron Morey encouraged anyone working alongside an inspirational woman to consider nominating them for one of the seven awards on offer.
“WIRA shines a spotlight on the incredible people driving real change and progress in our sector,” Mr Morey said.
“The winners are leaders in their fields who have often had to overcome immense adversity just to get through the door.
“From quiet achievers to standout performers, their moving and remarkable stories have cemented WIRA as one of industry’s most important nights of the year.”
The seven award categories opening for nominations for WIRA 2027 are:
- Outstanding Woman in Resources Award
- Outstanding Young Woman in Resources Award
- Woman in Resources Technology Award
- Outstanding Contribution or Achievement Award
- Outstanding Operator/Technician/Trade Woman Award
- Outstanding Company Initiative Award
- Champion of Women in Resources Award (any gender)
Nominations for each category are reviewed by a judging panel comprised of past WIRA winners and finalists and members of CME’s Diversity and Inclusion Reference Group. Three finalists are selected in each category, with a second judging panel picking the winner.
An eighth gong, the People’s Choice Award, is presented to the finalist who receives the most support through an online poll.
“Across WA’s resources sector, women are breaking new ground, solving complex challenges and creating opportunities for those who follow,” Mr Morey said.
“If someone you work with deserves to have their contribution recognised, I encourage you to nominate them for WIRA 2027.”
Nominations for WIRA 2027 opened on Monday 10 August and will close on Friday 2 October. For more information and to complete a nomination, visit https://cmewa.com.au/wira/
