Bronwyn Yates
Business Advisor · Shell Australia
About
Growing up in Narrogin, Western Australia, Bronwyn developed a passion for problem-solving and the resources sector’s potential to shape communities. She moved to Perth at 17 to study engineering and joined Shell as a Petroleum Engineering Graduate in 2014, later becoming a certified member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Over the past decade, Bronwyn’s career has spanned engineering, commercial analysis and culture transformation. Now Business Advisor to Shell Australia’s Country Chair, she continues to shape an inclusive workplace culture while learning from Shell’s top leaders.
Beyond her formal role, Bronwyn has been a powerful force for inclusion. As Co-Chair of Shell Australia’s LGBTI+ Inclusion network, Kaleidoscope, Bronwyn helped drive measurable, organisation-wide change. She oversaw allyship and inclusion training for more than 400 employees and introduced gender-affirming policies, all-gender facilities, and a reverse-mentoring program connecting senior leaders with LGBTI+ employees. Under her leadership, Kaleidoscope grew by 60% and helped Shell achieve Gold-tier recognition in the Australian Workplace Equality Index. Bronwyn also embedded inclusion into Shell’s leadership competencies and advocated for and contributed to the company’s Employee Resource Group Participation Policy, ensuring diversity work is recognised in performance frameworks.
Her advocacy extends beyond Shell through industry partnerships such as the Pinnacle Foundation and Partners in Pride — helping make Australia’s resources sector more inclusive for all.
